Bright Spot

This summer I (seriously - this was all me!) installed three trellises against our garage to break up this massive wall space.  I was very happy with how they looked and after talking with a friend's gardening husband, I decided to plant Clematis flowering vines.  After much searching, I found three different types of Clematis and planted them and hoped for a miracle considering I really don't have much of a green thumb.

A week after planting the Clematis with the purple flowers, they all fell off.  I gulped, but told myself it was just soil adjustment and they'd be fine and I continued watering and adding fertilizer as my friend's husband had told me he did.

Near the end of July those purple flowers started coming back!  To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of purple, but I actually really like these flowers and was very excited for an added pop of color to our front walk!

Today I was out watering and talking to these plants again.  The purple flowers are still coming, but the middle trellis, while having a TON of greenery, is not getting the little white flowers it's supposed to be getting.  I'm not panicking until next year.  It's kicking butt in the vining department so we are good.

But the third trellis is about to break me.  Or rather, it WAS.  Today as I was watering it and begging it not to die despite it's never-ending brown leaves, I glanced up because something odd caught my eye.

I realized it was a flower!!!

One lonely little flower and I was so excited and told her (him?) how pretty it looked and that despite the abysmal brown leaves around it, I was so happy to see it.

[Hi...I'm Crazy Kerry...I'm sure we've met.]

More color!  I hold out hope for next summer that our walkway will be brilliant with color!

I love that gorgeous red/pink one!! Mine have always been the boring purple. Not boring really, but "normal". They grow great in Bloomington, but I have tried two different ones here at the lake, and they have both died within weeks. I don't get it. I guess I need to talk to the lady at the farmers market. I wanted something to cover the ugly siding on the cabin!! Good job Kerry!!
